A seamless steel pipe is a circular pipe having a hollow section and no seams around it. The seamless steel pipe is made of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel ingot or solid tube blank, and then is made by hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawing. Seamless pipes are considered superior to welded pipes as they are built using monolithic steel billets, with intrinsic mechanical strength, without seam welds.
Seamless steel pipe, as the name suggests, is a pipe without a seam or a weld-joint. Seamless steel pipe is a tubular section or hollow cylinder, usually but not necessarily of circular cross-section, used mainly to convey substances which can flow — liquids and gases (fluids), slurries, powders and masses of small solids.

The production of our seamless pipes is tightly regulated and all of the pipes we stock have been fully tested to international standards to ensure we only supply the highest quality products.
This specification covers seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipes for wall use at low temperatures. Pipes shall be manufactured by seamless or welding process, and filler metal shall not be added during welding operation. All seamless and welded pipes shall be treated to control their microstructure. Tensile test, impact test, hydrostatic test and non-destructive electrical test shall be carried out in accordance with the specified requirements.

1. Scope

1.1 this specification covers nominal (average) wall seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipes used at low temperatures. Table 1 lists several grades of iron and steel. Some sizes of products may not be available under this specification because the thicker wall thickness will adversely affect the low-temperature impact performance.

1.2 supplementary requirements S1 of optional nature are provided. This applies only to cases specified by the buyer.

1.3 values expressed in inch pound units or SI units shall be considered standard values separately. In the text, SI units are shown in parentheses. The value specified in each system is not an exact equivalent; Therefore, each system must be used independently. Merging the values of the two systems may result in non-compliance with the specifications. Inch pound units shall apply unless the "m" designation of this specification is specified in the order.

Mandrel Mill Process
In the Mandrel Mill Process, a solid round (billet) is used. It is heated in a rotary hearth heating furnace and then pierced by a piercer. The pierced billet or hollow shell is rolled by a mandrel mill to reduce the outside diameter and wall thickness which forms a multiple length mother tube. The mother tube is reheated and further reduced to specified dimensions by the stretch reducer. The tube is then cooled, cut, straightened and subjected to finishing and inspection processes befor shipment.

Mannesmann plug mill process

In the Plug Mill Process, a solid round (billet) is used. It is uniformly heated in the rotary hearth heating furnace and then pierced by a Mannesmann piercer. The pierced billet or hollow shell is rollreduced in outside diameter and wall thickness. The rolled tube simultaneously burnished inside and outside by a reeling machine. The reeled tube is then sized by a sizing mill to the specified dimensions. From this step the tube goes through the straightener. This process completes the hot working of the tube. The tube (referred to as a mother tube) after finishing and inspection, becomes a finished product.
